On the morning of the Ovum retrieval the husband would be required to produce a semen sample. In the event of difficulty in doing so please inform doctor before hand so that we can make provision for cryofreezing the semen a few days before the actual procedure to avoid unnecessary stress for you and the doctor. Also, audio-visual aids and a special chamber are available for those who desire privacy. Once the semen has been obtained, it will be processed in the IVF laboratory. Thereafter, the eggs are inseminated with the husband's sperm in small 4-well dishes and cultured in an incubator for 48 to 72 hours. Fertilization is checked after 20 hours of insemination and you will be asked to report for embryo transfer on the 2nd or 3rd day after ovum retrieval. In some cases, we may go on to extended culture for 5 - 6 days and transfer embryos at the blastocyst stage. Amaximum of four embryos are ususally transfered and excess embryos Will be cryofrozen for future use.
